Kerry way, Hiking around Magillicuddy
reeks in need of a warm & very welcoming cottage The Stepping Stone With its
host's Sandy & John, The large
turf/log fire burning in the grate. The Stepping Stone is the best place to head
for, Snuggled in at the foot of the lack road in Bridia Valley.
At the end of a day on The Kerry
Way, Carruntohill or Broaghnabinna walking back down from
Lough Curraghmore with the Black valley slipping away behind
you, the warm welcoming scent of the turf fires burning in
Bridia you'll feel an extra spring in your step. Let our
secret haven await you and be met with genuine warmth and
hospitality. Totally relax and unwind and let Sandy & John take good care of
you.
On average it rains on 250 days each year,
be prepared for wet weather at anytime of the year. never underestimate how
quickly the mist can descend or rise from the valleys below. always allow
more time than you need to go up and come down, The mountains of Kerry are
that" Mountains
"what may in some guides be termed as easy, on a wet day of
which there are many, easy Hikes become difficult especially for the
unaware and unprepared. The nature of the terrain gives rise to un-passable rivers that
were no more than a tumbling stream an hour before. take at least one
stick, two would be better to aid you when hiking. The most important things
are proper supporting hiking boots, an ordnance survey map no78, compass,
something to drink and eat and shelter. Always leave word of your route and
expected time to be back ,always tell the people that you have left
word with that you have finished your hike.
For people who are limited by time a suggested shorter route than walking out
from Killarney to Black Valley is to take the boat from Ross Castle to the
upper lake Lord Brandons cottage and walk your first day through the Black
Valley and stop over here at the Stepping Stone 12km on your first night, then
walk the following day either to a suggested place to stay
Blackstones House
15km or maybe The Rowantree 8.5km stay over your second night and then walk
on to Glenbeigh the following day, it is possible to walk from the Stepping
Stone to Glenbeigh in one day 21km allow 8.5 hour add some rest time to
that.
